Mr. George Akom, a Member of Academic Patriots- Ghana and Parliamentary Candidate Hopeful for Sekyere Afram Constituency in the Ashanti Region has indicated that it would not be out of place to commend the Wife of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Hajia Samira Bawumia for the political decisions of the Vice President, her husband.
He said this when he was contributing to discussion on WONTUMI Radio and TV. He emphasized that, many always attribute the glory of bringing the Vice President into the lime light of politics to those who discovered him. But Mr. Akom iterated that ,it was good such people are mentioned and applauded, it was still important to commend the Wife for accepting to support his husband and allowing him to take such a bold decision. He intimated that, many decisions people take in life are not done in isolation, especially those who believe in their families including spouses. He added that the wife has been very supportive and participative in political activities of her husband, the Vice President of Ghana.
Mr. Akom added that , considering the opportunities that were available to the Vice President, it would take a woman of faith and boldness to support a husband to enter into politics knowing the consequential and risky nature of African politics. He quoted that , ” Behind every successful man is a good woman”.
He also stressed that many spouses would not support anything that involves politics. For a woman of that type to support a husband to pursue his political dream is commendable. He was of the view that, politics should not be seen to be a risky venture, but rather a way of contributing the development of the nation. The current situation of our politics is now moving into a path which is risky and not motivating. If this pattern continues, people who are knowledgeable, professionals, patriotic and interested in the national development would not join the main stream politics and governance.
He therefore called on all Ghanaians to see this as a future challenge to our democracy. He also commended women who are also into full time politics to live by examples for others to emulate.
He concluded that, spouses should share in the vision of each other for better lives.
