Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has bemoaned the current state of Ghana, stressing that this is not where the past leaders envisioned the country to be.

He said his new dawn campaign has caught on so well after he went around the country that it is what will bring Ghana back on track.

Mr Agyei Agyepong expressed these sentiments on Wednesday, June 21 when he filed his nomination forms to lead the ruling party into the 2024 elections.

He has become the sixth flagbearer aspirant to file his forms at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

The immediate past Executive Director of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) said what the NPP needs is an action-oriented leader, passionately mission-driven and very demanding of results and prepared to chase results.

“We must accept that where we are now is not where we want to be,” he bemoaned.

“We cannot mislead ourselves with excitable slogans that lead us nowhere. Ghana is really at the crossroads and what the country urgently needs now is a new dawn of astute political leadership with a vision that inspires hope in the youth and rekindles the faith of Ghanaians in our constitutional democracy.”

Mr Agyepong has announced that he will officially launch his campaign on Tuesday, July 11.

That will come on the eve of the announcement of results of the vetting to be conducted for qualified aspirants.

A Special Congress will on Saturday, August 26 select five out of the 11 so far who have picked forms to contest the primaries.

Saturday, November 4 will be the date on which the 2024 flagbearer will elected.
