A devastating fire broke out in Nogsenia, a suburb of Navrongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana on Sunday, January 12, claiming the life of a six-month-old baby.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day left the local community in shock and mourning.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the room of a couple before neighbours could intervene. The intensity of the flames made rescue efforts nearly impossible.
Despite attempts by the neighbours to extinguish the fire, the infant was tragically unable to be saved.
The baby’s mother, who was reportedly inside the house at the time of the incident, fell unconscious due to shock and smoke inhalation.
She was rushed to the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo for immediate medical attention.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, the fire destroyed several personal belongings, including household items, clothing, and important documents.
The family home, which served as their primary residence, was reduced to ashes, leaving the survivors without shelter.
