In a call to action, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, former NPP Constituency chairman for Afigya Kwabre, has advised Ashanti regional journalists to unite in order to effectively fulfill their core mandate.
As a seasoned politician, Chairman Appiah recognizes the vital role journalists play in shaping the country’s narrative and holding leaders accountable.
Chairman Appiah’s plea for unity is timely, as a fragmented journalism community can lead to a loss of credibility and impact.
He made this known during the Ashanti regional GJA’s thanksgiving service and get together ceremony held last night at longford event centre in Kumasi.
The affable chairman who contributed significantly to the progress of the event however appealed to the media in Kumasi, especially to get United.
He said, when journalists are united, they can more effectively advocate for press freedom, promote quality journalism, and support one another in the face of challenges.
The importance of unity in achieving common goals is a lesson that can be applied to various industries and sectors. For instance, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, recently inaugurated a 17-member committee to revive the Kumawood film industry, emphasizing the need for unity and teamwork among committee members ¹.
In the context of journalism, unity can facilitate collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mutual support. It can also amplify the voices of journalists, enabling them to better serve the public interest and promote democratic values.
As Chairman Appiah aptly pointed out, journalists have a critical role to play in shaping the country’s future. By uniting and working together, they can overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and make a more meaningful impact on society.
