Kumasi Mayor Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi has embarked on a surprise tour to assess the city’s conditions and implement measures to improve infrastructure and sanitation.

Accompanied by Metro Coordinating Director Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, heads of departments, security operatives, and metro guards, the Mayor visited key locations, including Abinkyi thoroughfare road, Adehyee Market, Apagyafie Intersection, and Alaba drainage.

The Mayor ordered Tonket Company Limited to produce structural permits and necessary documentation for scrutiny by Monday, warning that failure to comply would result in the removal of the blockage that has denied public access to the thoroughfare.

Hon. Boadi observed an overflow of waste that had eroded a stretch of the road due to poor drainage. He directed traders to relocate temporarily to allow for a thorough assessment and solution to the drainage problem.

Transport Engineer Nana Atta Poku recommended scarifying and rebuilding the road base.

The Mayor’s efforts aim to address sanitation challenges and improve infrastructure in Kumasi, despite a 120 million Ghanaian cedi debt portfolio for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). Initiatives include building a buffer welded mesh in WAEC drainage to separate solid waste from liquid waste and prevent flooding.

Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi’s surprise tour demonstrates his commitment to operationalizing his vision for Kumasi.

Since assuming office in May, he has spearheaded activities such as decongestion of Central Business Districts (CBDs), enforcement of approved transport fares, security, and protection of public school lands. His administration has also undertaken spot repairs on potholes and maintained traffic lights to ensure smoother traffic flow .
