GRIDCo’s 161kV Aboadze-Tarkwa Transmission Line Damaged, Repair Works Underway

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the Ghana Grid Company Ltd.’s (GRIDCo) 161kV Aboadze-Tarkwa transmission line has been damaged, potentially affecting power supply in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.

According to the Ministry, a maintenance team has been swiftly deployed to the site to begin urgent repair works. Technical assessments are ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and restore full transmission capacity in the shortest possible time.

The incident is expected to cause temporary disruptions in electricity supply, particularly in Kumasi and Tarkwa. The Ministry has assured the public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalize the situation as quickly as possible.

“We wish to assure the general public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalize the situation,” the Ministry said. “The Ministry deeply regrets any inconvenience this may cause and remains committed to ensuring reliable power supply across the country.”

The repair works are currently underway, and the Ministry has urged the public to bear with them as they work to restore power supply to the affected areas.

The cause of the damage is yet to be officially confirmed, but previous incidents of similar nature have been attributed to illegal chainsaw operations and other human activities that compromise the integrity of the transmission infrastructure.

GRIDCo has a dedicated team working around the clock to repair the damaged transmission line and restore power supply to the affected areas. The company has assured the public of its commitment to reliable power supply and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

The Ministry and GRIDCo are working together to resolve the issue and restore power supply to the affected areas as soon as possible .
