Augustus Andrews,Populary known as Chairman Nana Akwasi, Ashanti regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress has descended heavily on Dr Bawumia, flagbearer of the NPP for belittling Ghana’s education system.
In a press conference today, Chairman Nana Akwasi indicated that, one major feature of Dr.Bawumia’s tour to the Ashanti Region not long ago was the busing of students from various Senior High Schools to the youth connect programme at the Jubilee park to create a crowd effect to shore up his (Bawumia’s) sinking popularity in his own political stronghold.
The NDC finds this development very worrying because it shows the desperate lengths the NPP is prepared to go just to create an illusion of popularity.
According to him, the laws of Ghana do not allow partisan politics in the Senior High Schools and so for the Headmasters of these institutions to have released SHS students, some of whom are minors to participate in political activities at the time they are supposed to be in school studying, indicates how low they are prepared to go to please their NPP collaborators.
What is even shocking is that all these happened right under the nose of the Minister of Education, Mr.Yaw Adutwum, who was supposedly brought in by President Akufo Addo from the United States of America to restore sanity in our educational system.
He questioned that ,are high school students in the United States of America ,where he claims to be a proprietor, allowed to participate in political rallies during instructional hours?
If not, then why is he exposing SHS students in Ghana to this dangerous political adventure at the time school is in session?
This raises a fundamental ethical concern regarding the safety of students and the conduciveness of the educational environment.
It is a shame that somebody like Dr.Yaw Adutwum who was brought in to introduce international best practices in our education sector will be the very person destroying our senior high schools with unbridled partisan politicization.
He however called on parents to join forces with the NDC to demand answers from CHASS and GES for exposing their wards to this needless political danger when school is supposed to be in session.”He further asserted.
