This development emerged during the minister’s visit to the prison, where the regional coordinating council in partnership with MTN Ghana provided free health screening for inmates as part of the 2025 Ashantifest celebrations.

Dr. Amoakohene addressing charged audience at the Rattray park in Kumasi last night during the Ashanti Konnect Concert Musical Festival stated that ,the inmates would not have been identified for possible pardon if the Ashantifest initiative had not brought him and his team to the prison.

The regional minister expressed his gratitude to the organizers of Ashantifest 2025 for creating an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of inmates.

In addition to the potential presidential pardon, Dr. Amoakohene announced that inmates who have been on remand for several years have been provided with legal aid. This support aims to ensure that they receive fair treatment and have the opportunity to regain their freedom if possible.

The Ashantifest 2025 celebrations have also led to the renovation of the clinic inside the Kumasi Central Prison. The renovated facility will provide quality healthcare services to inmates, addressing their medical needs and improving their overall well-being.
