An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Joshua Alarbi, an unemployed man and neighbour of the complainant, to nine months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing.
The court presided over by Madam Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, found Alarbi guilty of unlawful entry and stealing. The stolen items included a 32-inch LG television set, a money box valued at GHC 135.00, and cash.
According to Police Chief Inspector Eric Pobee, the incident took place on June 25, 2023, around midnight. Alarbi entered one of the apartments belonging to Silas Confidence Beauty, a witness in the case, on the first floor of Biney Apartments located at Nungua Addogono, Accra. At the time, Beauty was away visiting a friend in East Legon.
While in the apartment, Alarbi ransacked the room and stole the television, GHC 1,000.00 in cash, and an empty money box. However, one of the tenants who was awake at the time spotted him and raised the alarm.
Realizing the danger, Alarbi abandoned the stolen items on the balcony and attempted to flee. But luck was not on his side as the occupants of the apartment apprehended him and handed him over to the Nungua police.
During the investigation, Alarbi admitted to the offence in his statement, leading to the charges against him.
The court ordered him to serve his nine-month sentence in hard labour at the Ankaful Prisons.
