Ghanaian Academician shares secret in maths education in USA

Prof. Yarhands Dissou Arthur of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Ghana, has shared innovative research on the impact of mathematical history on student motivation in learning mathematics.

In a captivating presentation at Arizona State University (ASU) in USA, the Ghanaian Academician in a thought-provoking presentation shed light on the significance of incorporating mathematical history into educational curricula.

According Professor Arthur, mathematics connections have a direct positive effect on mathematics motivation.

The Mathematics Educationist further underscores the importance of linking mathematical concepts to real-life problems and our immediate surroundings.This was found by his study to contribute significantly to deeper understanding of student in Mathematics.

His research revealed that the history of mathematics concepts plays a mediating role in the relationship between mathematics connections and motivation

Professor Arthur narrated that with the history of concepts, teachers can diminish students’ anxieties and transform their perceptions about mathematics, enabling them to tackle mathematical challenges with confidence.

“Recognizing the power of mathematics connections, can create more engaging and effective learning environment for students of all ages.”

Professor Arthur’s research was widely praised by experts in the field and is expected to have a significant impact on mathematics education globally.
