Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia has chosen his running mate for the 2024 general election.
The selected candidate’s name will be submitted to the NPP National Council for approval before Bawumia makes an official announcement.
Deep-throat sources said in the next few days, “the NPP flagbearer will be submitting the name of the lucky nominee to the National Council of the party for deliberation.”
The report added: “While the name of the nominee is kept top-secret, the names of those not on the list are known.
“Contrary to earlier reports of the shortlist including influential church leader Apostle Opoku Onyinah, checks show he was not under consideration.”
It is confirmed that prominent figures such as Chief of Staff Frema Opare and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who were rumored to be leading contenders for the position, have not been nominated as running mates for Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 general election.
After securing the NPP flagbearership, Bawumia requested additional time from the National Council to announce his running mate, emphasizing the importance of extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
With the exclusion of Onyinah, Frema, and Adutwum, analysts suggest that the path is now clear for Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, to be named as the running mate.
The Ashanti Region, a stronghold for the NPP, is considered crucial for winning the 2024 election.
Consequently, selecting a running mate from this region has gained significant traction since Bawumia’s election as flagbearer.
