Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, Director of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has issued a warning to oil companies operating without licenses in the Ashanti Region.

He explained that the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) company has a strategic depot in Kumasi, and his visit to the region was part of his working hours to explore potential collaboration and enhance the storage facility. According to him, stiffer punishments will be imposed on unlicensed operators to serve as a deterrent and sanitize the system.

Speaking to the media after meeting with Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, at the Regional Coordinating Council, Tamekloe affirmed the NPA’s readiness and commitment to working with BOST in Kumasi to enhance the region’s comfort.

He noted that the Ashanti Region is a strategic location for the NPA, given its high fuel consumption rates. “Aside from Accra, Kumasi has the second-highest fuel consumption, and in some respects, it’s even higher,” he said. Tamekloe disclosed that the NPA is prioritizing issues affecting the Ashanti Region, including product quality and consumption projections.
