The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Akwasi Asante, has predicted the possibility for rich and mad people to rule Ghana in future.
According to him, Ghana’s democracy has turned monecracy therefore political power depends on one’s ability to pay a huge amount of money during primaries of both NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Asante was reacting to the payment of money and equipment such as fridges and televisions to delegates in the just-ended parliamentary primaries of the ruling party.
According to him, leaders of the political parties are quietly pretending as if they are unaware of the future repercussions such acts will have on Ghana’s democracy.
He disclosed that if appropriate mechanisms are not put in place to halt such cancer, only what he described as richly mad people will rule the wisely sane people in the country.
Mr Asante, therefore, called on the leadership of NPP and NDC to strategize policies that could help reduce such payment to the minimum level to protect the county’s democracy.
