The leadership of Concerned Youth of Asante (CYA), a pressure group affiliated to the Manhyia Palace has descended heavily on the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) for politicizing a comment made by the Overlord of Asante, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the UN High – Level Forum on the culture of peace at the headquarters in New York.
The King revealed during the forum that, he had to intervene to convince ex-President Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 Presidential election.
This, comment he made at the forum has brought a lot of controversies and verbal attacks on the side of the two big political parties in the country.
In a statement dated 17th September,2019 and signed by Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng who is popularly known in the political space as Gyataba and a leader of the group lambasted the governing New Patriotic Party members for politicizing the issue.
According to him, the NPP is doing politics with Otumfoɔ’s Persuasive Comment just to shift attention on the good things that Otumfuo spoke about at the forum on that day.
Gyataba who doubles as the founder and leader of United Front Party(UFP) said, instead of NPP Members to focus and propagate the wise and good topics Otumfuo spoke about at the forum, they are rather inciting him against the former president of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
He alleged that, NPP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have never liked and respected the Manhyia Palace.
CYA leader recalled that, in 2012 the NPP accused Otumfuo and the Manhyia Palace for paying bribe to Supreme Court Judge, Justice Atuguba to rule in favour of John Mahama to become president during the 2012 election petition.
Adding that,”even if Otumfuo had made such a comment, is not the business of the NPP government to propagate it. He therefore rubbishes NPP and charged them to rather go and fix the broken economy and stop disgracing Manhyia Palace.
“Otumfuo only spoke as a wise King and if the wise speaks it’s the fool who propagates it” .
