The Wassa Agona Amenfi to Wassa Sraha stretch of road in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region has become a major concern for residents and commuters alike.
The road, which has been in a state of disrepair for a long time, has developed a massive pothole, commonly referred to as a “manhole,” that has made it difficult for vehicles to navigate.
A visit to the area revealed that the road is not only potholed but also flooded in some areas, leading to traffic congestion and long queues of vehicles and tricycles. The stagnant water on the road has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other water-borne diseases.
According to reports, all the roads in the Amenfi Central District are classified as third-class roads, and none of them have been tarred. This has made it extremely difficult for residents to move around, especially during the rainy season.
Residents of the area are worried about the situation and have called on President Mahama to intervene and provide assistance in rehabilitating the roads. They expressed their frustration and disappointment with the state of the roads, which they claim has been neglected for far too long.
Speaking to some residents, they lamented that despite their efforts to elect representatives to parliament, they have not seen any significant development in the area.
They are therefore appealing to their MP, Hon. Joana Gyan, to use her position to bring development to the area.
The residents are urging the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Wassa Agona-Sraha road and other roads in the district to improve the lives of the people. They believe that good roads will not only enhance economic activity but also improve access to social services such as healthcare and education.
The situation on the Wassa Agona-Sraha road is a classic example of the infrastructure challenges facing many parts of Ghana. The government has been urged to invest more in road infrastructure to improve the lives of citizens and boost economic growth.
In the meantime, residents of Amenfi Central District are left to contend with the challenges posed by the deplorable state of their roads. It remains to be seen whether the government will heed their call and provide the necessary assistance to improve the roads.
