The ruling NPP closed the filing of nominations ahead of parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies yesterday, 10th August 2023.
In the Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, two more aspirants successfully filed their nominations at the Party office in Drobonso before the day came to an end. They are the DCE Hon. Sulemana Hamidu and Mr George Akom. Their forms were received by the Party Chairman together with other executives.
Their successful filing add to a total of three aspirants contesting the parliamentary candidature in the Sekyere Afram constituency after Odenkyem filed his the previous day.
In an interview with Abotereye information center, a local community information center in Drobonso on Friday, one Odoyewu whom many thought was contesting said he has backed down. He told host, Chairman General that he will rather throw his weight behind Hon. Sulemana Hamidu instead of contesting.
In a related development, NDC is likely going to investigate a leaked audio in which some executives of the Party have been named as supporting one of the NPP PC aspirants. This was after Hon. Sulemana while addressing a section of NPP delegates in the constituency admitted that his motivation to contest came from some NDC executives.
In the audio intercepted by this reporter, the DCE admitted that NDC has more members than NPP in the constituency hence will win any election any day. However with him as NPP PC, most NDC members will vote NPP because he has his entire family in the constituency.
“Nananom, my whole family is in Sekyere Afram Plains constituency unlike my contenders whose children are schooling in Kumasi and other places. In fact two of my kids are writing the ongoing BECE in Drobonso. So I am a true son of Sekyere Afram Plains. That is why I have some NDC members supporting me. I am the only man who can win the seat for NPP”, he hosted.
Vetting of the aspirants will take place soon and Citizen-One will bring updates to followers.
