News of an impending reshuffle has sent Minister of Interior Ambrose Dery into apprehension following reports he is one of the ministers to be moved among many others.
The reports say Ambrose Dery survived past reshuffles by deploying top traditional rulers from his native Nandom among other lobbyists to prevail on President Akufo-Addo not to reshuffle him.
This time around, with the 2024 election on the horizon, the President is said to be on course to name someone “better to run the Ministry more strongly and effectively”, a source told this portal.
In February this year, the President’s mind was set to be made up to reshuffle Ambrose Dery to a Minister of State at the Presidency but this thwarted after a last-minute intervention by sources this portal prefers not to name.
More crucially, however, Mr. Ambrose Dery despite endorsing the forms of the Vice President was reportedly not supporting the Vice President at heart, party insiders suggest.
Mr. Ambrose Dery in this reshuffle is expected to join his Karaga brother, Mohammed Amin Adam and O.B Amoah to serve as Ministers of State at Jubilee House.
In February when news of his reshuffle emerged, Mr. Dery considered the reappointment as a “technical demotion” and pulled all his lobbying strings to stay in office at the Ministry of Interior instead of a Minister of State.
More Reshuffle
Other Reshuffle subjects include Bryan Acheampong who is said to be favoured by party hardliners to become Interior Minister.
However, Mr. Acheampong faces a hurdle as Minister of National Security Albert Kan Dapaah is said to favour someone else to work with in the sector.
The President is said to trust Kan Dapaah and Dominic Nitiwul as key leaders in the security sector and may not move them despite pressures from some quarters to do so. On the contrary, Kan Dapaah is said to be deciding other Ministers’ fate.
Mr. Bryan Acheampong was said to have repeatedly undermined Kan Dapaah as National Security Minister leading to his redesignation in Akufo-Addo’s first term. He was however called back to head the Agric sector and could be moved again.
Other Minister’s who may be reportedly affected include Samuel Abu Jinapor, who has come under severe criticism for “arrogance” by party insiders due to what they say is “his recent wealth”. While loved By Akufo-Addo, sources say the President may move him to a less controversial sector to avoid a scandal.
Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah may mind being demoted to a Deputy Finance Minister when John Kumah is elevated. The Information Minister is said to be prepping his CV for a future running mate and possible Presidential run.
In 2021, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah who is said to he a “darling boy” of Chief of Staff Frema Opare, bid farewell to staff of the Information Ministry only to be brought back there. Ambitious, Oppong Nkrumah, a lawyer and finance person, had reportedly lobbied for the economic sector but was prevailed upon to stay at the Teachers’ Hall Area space he presently occupies.
