The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the chiefs and residents of Western North Region of more infrastructural development before his tenure of office ends.
According to him, his government was committed judicious use of national resources to ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of development in every part of the country.
He was of the view that the creation of the Western North Regions had gone a long way to attract a lot infrastructural developments to facelift the new region.
The President made the statement at a colourful durbar to climax a week-long celebration of the 2023 Eluo Festival (Yam) of the chiefs and people of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area under the theme: ” Ensuring Pro-Active Socio-Economic Development in Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, The Role of Traditional Leaders”.
He mentioned construction regional adminstration offices, road networks, health facilities, educational facilities, employment among major projects spread across the region as result of the creation of the Western North Region.
The President, therefore, stated that, “Let us continue to live in love, peace, unity and pray for the government to work judiciously to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the national cake”.
He reaffirmed the relevance of the traditional authorities as a key stakeholders in the Ghanaian history and development.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area stated that the traditional Eluo (Yam) festival brings the people of the people of the area together in unity and signifies their identity a one people.
The Eluo (Yam) festival is a period to showcase the rich culture to the youth and visitors for both economic and enjoyment opportunities. It also imbibes in the youth in particular, culture values and cultural heritage.
Katakyie Bumagama ll, who is also member of the Western North Regional of Chiefs and member of state commended the President Akufo-Addo for the creation of the Western North Region.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, said the creation of the new region has contributed to massive projects which had facelifted the area.
He singled-out the construction of the Benchema-Adjuafo road and Sefwi Wiawso town roads which are steadily progressing as remarkable achievement by the government.
The rest of the infrastructural developments are construction of Regional Coordinating Council Office, Zipline, Regional Police Command, State Housing Project, Regional Land Commission, Regional Health Directorate at Bodi as well the ” STEM” Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education school at Awaso.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll used the opportunity to appeal to President Akufo-Addo to established Cocoa Processing Industry at Sefwi Wiawso under One-District, One-Factory.
The Eluo Festival which was characterised by rich cultural displays such as drumming and dancing was attended by government officials including, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Cheiftancy and Religious Affairs, Minister for Western North Region, Jojo Rocky Obeng, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie Member for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Mr. Alex Teeth, Member for Sefwi Akontombra
The festival also attracted influential traditional authorities such as Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi ll, Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area who doubles as National House of Chiefs President, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim ll, Paramount Chief of Wassa Amanfi Traditional Area, and Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House Chiefs Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Bodu ll,
Others were Okogyeman Kwaku Gyeaprah lll, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, Oyeadeeyie Basape Kojo Armah lll, Paramount Chief of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area among others.
