His Royal Majesty Togbega Gabusu VII on Friday, 7th June 2024, at the St. Teresa’s College of Education, Hohoe led the good people of the Gbi Traditional Area to part take in this year’s tree planting exercise with regard to the country’s damaged landscape. The Green Ghana initiative aims to raise national awareness of the need for coordinated action and to instill in young people the benefits of planting and nurturing trees.
During the formal planting ceremony, the Paramount Chief of GBI received unwavering support from the GBI people, demonstrating their willingness to provide it with the required backing as established powers. “We must make sure that our forest is managed sustainably,” he said.
He urged other Chiefs within the Volta Region and beyond to lead their subjects to plant trees and to nurture them to growth as he believes will go a long way to complement the government’s aggressive afforestation efforts.
According to the Chief, planting trees is a social and religious duty that each and every person must perform and together take action against climate change, deforestation and environmental degradation.
Delivery a speech at the Green Ghana Day ceremonial planting, on behalf of Mr. Francis Fiakpui, the Municipal Chief Executive revealed that 30,000 trees will be planted in the Hohoe Municipality which include 100 cashew and mahogany trees as part of this year’s government initiative, the Green Ghana Day.
Mr. Francis Fiakpui assured that the trees will be well nurtured, watered and protected so they can grow to greener as the theme for this year suggests.
In order to make the goal of planting 10 million trees a reality, he pleaded with them to do more than just plant the trees to care for them.
In order to restore Ghana’s forest reserves and make the country greener, a delegation from the Ministry led by Mr. Frank Adigbo urged the residents of GBI to fully participate in the tree-planting project.
Mr Samuel Bruce Kpeglo of St Teresa’s College of Education delivered a speech on behalf of the Principal of the College, Prof.(Mrs) Scholastica Azuah addressing that the tree planting initiative which not only reflects our commitment to the environment but also inspires all of us to take actionable steps towards a greener future.
He expressed gratitude and joy for hosting an occasion like this and hope to work hand in hand to ensure that the trees that are planted today will grow and thrive, leading a lasting legacy of future generations.
