Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken a significant lead over his main rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in recent online polls conducted by Pulse Ghana following the release of both candidates’ manifestos for the 2024 general elections.

According to Pulse Ghana, the polls, carried out on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and WhatsApp, showed a strong preference for Mahama among voters. On WhatsApp, out of 10,069 votes cast, Mahama secured 8,208 votes (76.72%), while Bawumia received 2,491 votes (23.28%). Similarly, on X, Mahama garnered 79% of the votes, compared to Bawumia’s 21%.

These results suggest a considerable advantage for Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, over Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate. The polls may reflect current public sentiment, with many voters expressing support for Mahama’s leadership and policies amid economic challenges and governance concerns.

While Dr. Bawumia, the current Vice President, has emphasized his vision for continuity and economic growth, these early indicators highlight the challenge he faces in swaying public opinion before the 2024 elections.

Although these online polls are not necessarily predictive of the final electoral outcome, they provide insight into the current political landscape and voter preferences. As the election season progresses, both candidates are expected to intensify their campaigns, focusing on key issues such as economic stability, job creation, and governance reforms to secure support from undecided voters and strengthen their bases.
