About 1,700 inmates of the Kumasi Central Prison are expected to benefit from free vocational skills training by 2025.

The proposed training programme is to be organized by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Subin Constituency if he is elected as the next and first NDC MP for the area.

Nana Akwasi Denkyi Agyekum, donating food items to the inmates , said ‭the project is intended to strengthen inmates and clear them from stigmatization‭ ‬and ‭ ‬discrimination ‭upon their release.

‭The decision to assist came after the PC conferred with prison authorities upon realizing their needs.

He said, at least 1,700 inmates of the Kumasi Central Prison could receive vocational skills trainings by 2025 when
retooling and reequipping of the facility would be completed.

“Vocational‭ ‬skills trainin‭g ‬and Business ‭Advisor‭y ‬opportunities ‭will be ‬provided for the prisoner‭s ‬through ‭apprenticeshi‭p ‬training as a way to reduce crime rate in the country”, he noted.

He said the NDC under former President John Dramani Mahama is poised to bring job to the door steps of Ghanaians and that this is achievable when the party is voted into office.

He referred to organised migration policy in the NDC manifesto which intends to nurture talents of the youth in the Country so that they could be emigrated for the benefit of the Country, citing Philippines as an example.

‭He said the lack of social and economic opportunities for both prison inmates and ex-offenders motivated him to introduce the vocational skills like carpentry, welding and masonry, among others for the inmates.

“The successful implementation of this Project will contribute to Ghana’s efforts at achieving Sustainable Development Goals, No poverty , Zero hunger, Decent work and economic growth and Reduced inequalities, ”he told The Punch newspaper last week.

He, however, expressed confidence that Ghanaians will vote for the NDC in the 2024 elections, regardless of the party’s 8th position on the ballot for the upcoming elections.

He emphasised that position on the ballot has little bearing on electoral outcomes, citing past experiences where the NDC held the top spot but still lost.

“If one picks number one, it does not guarantee a win. We have placed severally on the number one position and lost the elections, it does not ensure electoral victory,” he explained.

He stressed that even though the National Democratic Congress is placed in the deepest part of the ballot paper, Ghanaians would vote for the umbrella. They virtually will look for the umbrella, that is what everybody is looking at.

“If you go to the rural community, you will see that everybody is talking about the umbrella and they will definitely look for it,” he concluded.
