The Preacher of the gospel has lashed out at the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi, for routing that mining or galamsey generates a lot of revenue to the state and therefore cannot be banned.
The chief had also said all those calling on President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency on galamsey and all forms of community mining do not understand what they are talking about.
But Apostle Kofi Nkansah-Sarkodie popularly known as Saint Sark, the General Overseer of the Open Arms Ministry said Kingmakers and people of his traditional area should destool him immediately and the National House of Chiefs should also sack him for making such comments in capacity as a paramount chief of a predominantly an illegal mining area.
The Minister of the Gospel said it is painful and regrettable that at a time people all over the country are crying for water as a result of the pollution of our water bodies caused by the activities of illegal mining, no mean person other than Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi should be making such statements.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi who is also the President of the National House of Chiefs was recently quoted as saying that mining or galamsey generates a lot of revenue for the state and offers employment to a large number of youth in mining communities and so those agitating for President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency on galamsey do not understand its implications.
Saint Sark who was addressing journalists during one of his routine press conferences at the headquarters of his church at North Suntreso in Kumasi last Tuesday, stressed that desperate situations sometimes call for radical measures because reports from experts talk of all kinds of malformation deformities at birth by women from galamsey areas.
He said the pollution of our water bodies and the health risks galamsey poses to society and our future is alarming and therefore the argument that the country earns lots of revenue from illegal mining is very regrettable especially coming from no other person than the President of the National House of Chiefs.
Touching on the issue of the Forensic Auditing of the Voter’s Register as demanded by the opposition NDC and some CSOs, the General Overseer cautioned the EC to reason with the people’s voice and yield to the demand if the EC knows that there is nothing fishy because it is not Ghana’s money to be used in funding the audit of the register.
Saint Sark also said the misunderstanding that erupted recently during the balloting for positions on the Presidential Ballot Paper for the December elections, was to say the least, very disgusting and shameful and asked the EC to come out and render an apology to Ghanaians. END
