Tensions are rising in Antoa, a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, following the appointment of Nana Kofi Ofori as the new chief by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The announcement, made on February 10, 2025, has been met with mixed reactions, with some members of the Aduana Royal Family strongly opposing the decision.
At the heart of the opposition are allegations of misconduct against Nana Kofi Ofori, including the sale of lands and the use of intimidation tactics.
Some royals and concerned citizens argue that he is not the right candidate for the position.
Mr. Mandella Donkor, a concerned royal, claims that Nana Kofi Ofori has been using force to silence those who challenge his legitimacy, citing a recent incident where some macho men beat a royal to the pulp at the palace.
Others, like Maame Attah and Osei Yaw, expressed disapproval over Nana Kofi Ofori’s alleged illegal sale of lands, which they believe disqualifies him from ascending the throne.
Maame Ama Ntome, another member of the royal family, voices frustration over the lack of consultation in the selection process, stating that no member of the family was consulted on his candidacy, which is traditionally wrong.
As tensions escalate, many residents and members of the Aduana Royal Family are calling on the Asantehene to reconsider his decision to avoid potential unrest in the community.
The situation remains volatile, with concerns about hunger and instability growing among the townspeople.
