The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is gearing up to contest the Akwatia by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.

Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC, believes the party’s decision to contest is a testament to their commitment to the people of Akwatia.

According to him,the party has confirmed its participation in the upcoming by-election, with him emphasizing the party’s determination to win the seat.

The Akwatia seat was previously embroiled in a court case, which was not conclusive until the demise of Ernest Kumi, the seat’s former occupant.

The NDC views the NPP’s decision not to contest the Tamale Central elections as a strategic move to gain sympathy ahead of the Akwatia by-election.

Godwin Ako Gunn cited the example of the Ablekumah North rerun, where the NPP claimed not to be contesting but ultimately participated.

The NDC is cautioning its members to be circumspect in their comments during this period of grief and mourning, particularly with the recent passing of Ernest Kumi and the eight heroes being mourned today .
