The Sikaman-Brofoyedu community park in the Adansi-Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region was abuzz with solemnity as Nana Omono Asamoah Adjei II, Adokwaihene and representative of Adansihene, warmly welcomed Ashanti Regional NDC party executives and Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the NDC.
The occasion was a traditional ritual to honour the youth and people of Adansi -Brofoyedu who dedicated their lives and time to help convey the body of the recent helicopter crash that claimed eight prominent lives.
During the visit, Adokwaihene appealed for a monument to be erected at the crash site as a tourist attraction to commemorate the victims.
He also urged authorities to provide Adansi Brofoyedu with essential social amenities and infrastructure to enhance the living standards of residents. “We need to honor the memories of the victims by ensuring their sacrifice is not in vain,” he emphasized.
Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia ,National Chairman of the NDC expressed the government’s profound appreciation to the people of Brofoyedru, Nananom, and the youth for their efforts during the tragic incident.
He highlighted the importance of sustainable natural resource management, emphasizing the need to combat illegal mining. “Let’s use this sad incident to support the government in the fight against illegal mining and ensure responsible mining practices that don’t harm our environment,” he stated.
The NDC Chairman announced several initiatives to support the affected communities, including a donation of Gh¢100,000 to the youth who devoted their time and energy to rescue the bodies.
He also supported traditional leaders with Gh¢20,000 to facilitate the remaining traditional rituals.
He promised to see to the completion of the road network from Asokwa Junction to Adansi-Akrofuom to serve as a reminder of the unfortunate incident.
Chairman Asiedu Nketia also promised government’s assistance to complete community centers in Brofoyedru and Sikaman.
He said the will be recruitment of youth into sustainable employment opportunities in security services, teaching,and farming.
On his part, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to the youth and residents for their concern and patriotism during the incident. He noted that families of the victims are allowed to organize funerals for their loved ones and offered clinical psychologist support to the youth involved in the rescue efforts. The Minister also appealed to residents to provide any body parts of the helicopter to aid in the investigation.
The MP for the area, Mr. Joseph Azumah, commended Nananom of Adansi Akrofrom for their fervent support and assistance to the government in organizing the funerals for the victims, both spiritually and physically. Their efforts, he noted, have been invaluable in ensuring the dignity of the deceased is respected .
