Upper East Regional Minister Calls for Continued Empowerment of Women

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has emphasized the importance of empowering women in Ghana’s development. He made this call during the 63rd National Women’s Fellowship Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, held at the Bolgatanga Technical Institute.

Hon Atanga stressed that empowering women is not just a moral duty but a national priority. He highlighted the government’s efforts to promote girl-child education, women’s entrepreneurship, maternal health, and gender equity.

The Minister also mentioned the allocation of GH¢51.3 million as seed funding for the establishment of the National Women’s Development Bank, aimed at providing tailored business support to women and improving livelihoods .

The Minister emphasized the significant contributions of women to society, citing their roles in agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises, family nurturing, and leadership positions. He commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its investments in education, healthcare, and capacity-building initiatives that have positively impacted women’s lives.

Atanga urged the Women’s Fellowship to continue serving as beacons of hope and moral stability in society.

He emphasized the importance of raising godly families and nurturing the youth, particularly in an era where moral values are being challenged. The Minister also assured the conference of the Regional Coordinating Council’s readiness to partner with the Church in promoting peace and security in the region.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its role in shaping society over the decades. He highlighted the Church’s efforts in promoting education, healthcare, and social protection for women and children, which complement government initiatives.

The 63rd National Women’s Fellowship Conference serves as a reminder of the importance of empowering women and promoting their contributions to society. The conference theme, “Celebrating our heritage, building on the foundation already laid,” underscores the need for continued support and empowerment of women to drive national development.
