In a landmark celebration of educational excellence, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, hosted the first-ever “Heroes of Education” Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 10, 2025. The event brought together traditional leaders, education officials, parents, students, and members of the media to honor the dedication and achievements of teachers and top-performing students in the district, highlighting the transformative power of motivation in education.

Hon. Osei Akoto, in his address, commended the tireless efforts of teachers, describing them as the “true architects of the nation’s future.” He emphasized that the awards ceremony was part of his ongoing commitment to motivate educators and raise educational standards across the constituency. Speaking on the theme “Empowering Teacher Commitment Through Motivation,” he stressed that motivated teachers inspire students to reach their fullest potential, creating disciplined and purpose-driven learners who excel both inside and outside the classroom.

While acknowledging the dedication of the District Directorate of Education and staff of the Ghana Education Service, the MP expressed concern over the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and WASSCE results in the district, describing them as “not encouraging.” He urged education stakeholders to work collaboratively to reverse this trend, requesting the District Director of Education to submit a comprehensive plan by the end of the year to improve student performance outcomes.

The highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of thirteen exceptional educators—twelve teachers from KG, JHS, and SHS levels, and one outstanding non-teaching staff—who were each presented with forty-three-inch flat-screen television sets, gas burners, and certificates of recognition. In addition, twenty-three top-performing BECE candidates from grades six to nine received trunks, chop boxes, and student mattresses. According to Hon. Osei Akoto, these awards were designed to motivate teachers to give their best, reduce attrition, and encourage students to excel academically.

SOME of the Award-winning teachers expressed deep gratitude, describing the recognition as a significant morale booster. One teacher remarked, “This acknowledgment assures us that our hard work does not go unnoticed and inspires us to continue shaping the future of our children.” Likewise, the BECE top performers thanked the MP for his support and pledged to study diligently to achieve their academic goals, promising to make both the MP and the district proud.

Amid enthusiastic applause, Hon. Osei Akoto announced plans to establish a scholarship scheme for both teachers and students in the district. The initiative aims to support brilliant but needy students financially and provide professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their skills. He reaffirmed that education remains the surest path to development and pledged to ensure that no teacher or student is left behind due to lack of motivation or resources.

The ceremony, attended by traditional leaders, the District Chief Executive, the District Director of Education, and numerous parents, was marked by excitement and a shared sense of commitment to educational progress. Participants praised Hon. Seth Osei Akoto for his visionary leadership and dedication to empowering teachers and learners. The Heroes of Education Awards is expected to become an annual event in Atwima Mponua, celebrating excellence in teaching and learning while fostering a culture of academic achievement and sustainable development throughout the constituency.
