Prestea Huni – Valley Municipal Gets One Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000,000) for Development In Mining Communities

As part of government efforts to improve all mining communities, the Minerals Devopment Fund has allocated an an amount of One million Ghana Cedis to the Local Management Committee (LMC) of Prestea Huni – Valley Municipality.

The cheque was handed over to the chairman of the committee Mr. I. Y. Bimpeh by Madam Esther Happy Edeani, the Board chair of the Minerals Devopment Fund during the inaugural ceremony of the Local Management Committee (LMC) on Wednesday the 27th Day of May, 2020 at the Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly Hall in Bogoso.

The committee which is made up of the Municipal Chief Executive, Traditional Authorities, a representative from the identified Youth groups, representative from the identified women’s group and a representative fromMinerals commission who will be the secretary to the committee as the Law demands.

The mandate of the committee will see to the facilitation of socio-economic development of communities in which Mining activities are undertaken and those affected by Mining operations.

The committee which is governed by the provision of section 19 of Act 912 of the Minerals Devopment Fund which establishes the Local Management Committee.
The committee is to administer, operate the scheme and also be responsible for the implementing of the approved projects by members of the committee.

Board Chairperson of the Fund Madam Esther Happy Edeani who also chaired the occasion congratulated the committee members and encouraged them to work hard for the development of the communities as the task assigned to them is not an easy one.

She thanked them for taken up the mantle even though it’s a sacrificial job (No Salary). Madam Edeani urged them to work hand in hand with stakeholders of various mining communities to achieve thier best within the limited time frame.

On his part, Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea Huni Valley *Dr. Issac Dasmani* assured them the funds would be put into good use for the development of the municipality.

He also pledged to monitor proceedings of the committee for effective results.
