Ministry of Education Launches Investigation into Allegations of Bribery in School Placement Process

The Ministry of Education has taken swift action following allegations of bribery in the ongoing school placement process involving Member of Parliament for Akrofuom, Hon. Joseph Azumah.

In a press statement dated October 22, 2025, the Ministry confirmed it is initiating urgent investigations into the claims.

According to the Ministry’s statement, media reports have surfaced alleging that Hon. Joseph Azumah was involved in a case where a parent claimed to have paid GHC30,000 to secure admission for their child to a particular school. The parent reportedly approached Azumah citing he was an MP, seeking assistance for placement.

The Ministry views these allegations with utmost seriousness and concern.

Hon. Minister for Education has convened a meeting with National Security to refer the allegations for a thorough and urgent investigation.

The Ministry emphasizes its commitment to maintaining integrity, transparency, and fairness in the school placement process.

Any individuals found engaging in bribery, extortion, or manipulation of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) will face full legal consequences.

The Ministry urges Hon. Joseph Azumah, Mr. Richard Asamoah Mensah (Secretary of the Construction and Building Workers’ Union), and any other persons with credible information to cooperate fully with National Security to aid ongoing investigations.

Collaboration is deemed crucial for uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability.

The Ministry reaffirms its resolve to safeguard the integrity of the placement process, ensuring access to secondary education remains free, fair, and merit-based for all Ghanaian children.

 

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is used to place students into senior high schools in Ghana based on merit. Allegations of malpractice in this process raise concerns about fairness and transparency in educational opportunities.
