The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, has called for collective action and consensus-building to strengthen the Kimberley Process (KP) and address the evolving challenges facing the diamond industry.

Speaking at the KP Ministerial Meeting on November 20, 2025, lawyer Sammy Gyamfi emphasized the need for progress and reform to ensure the KP remains relevant and effective in preventing conflict diamonds from entering the global market.

The meeting, hosted by the United Arab Emirates, brought together ministers, industry stakeholders, and civil society organizations to discuss the future of the KP and its role in promoting responsible diamond trade practices. Mr. Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi highlighted the changing nature of conflict and the need for the KP to adapt to these new realities, including the exploitation and exclusion of diamond communities.

“We may not find a perfect text that satisfies every delegation on every point, but we can and must take steps to strengthen the credibility, relevance, and moral authority of this Process,”lawyer Sammy Gyamfi said. “Ghana believes in consensus and urges all participants to focus on areas of convergence, listen carefully to one another, and pursue solutions that protect vulnerable populations, while safeguarding legitimate trade.”

The KP has been instrumental in reducing conflict diamonds in the global market, but challenges persist. Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi emphasized the importance of finding common ground and taking decisive action to address these challenges, including the expansion of the definition of “conflict diamonds” to cover more areas and types of abuses.

The meeting comes at a critical time for the diamond industry, with the KP facing pressure to reform and adapt to changing market dynamics. Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi’s call for progress and cooperation reflects Ghana’s commitment to responsible diamond trade practices and its role as a key player in the global diamond industry.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the future of the KP and its efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainability in the diamond trade.
