LEBANESE COMMUNITY IN ASHANTI REGION DONATES ASSORTED FOOD ITEMS TO KUMASI CENTRAL PRISONS

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Prisons, Alhaji ADP Osman Tesembedo, has appealed to government and benevolent organisations to help equip and expand Kumasi Central prisons infirmary to address health related issues of the inmates. ADP Alhaji Osman Tesembedo made this known when the Lebanese Community in Ashanti region donated assorted food items to the inmate in Kumasi Central prisons.
The infirmary in Kumasi Central prisons is small and ill equipped to cater for the immediate health needs of the teeming inmates. Some of the challenges confronting country’ s prisons including, delays of health care financing of inmates, maintenance of the building and the scant medical equipment has been neglected. Inadequate drug supply is a serious issue in the prison. The Spokesperson for Lebanese Community in Ashanti region, Haidab Hany Salah expressed concern about the current predicament of prisoners. According to him, prisons required staff strength to facilitate efficient and effective service provision. Mr. Hany Salah urged the authorities of Kumasi Central prisons to present their major priority for assistance by the Lebanese Community
Receiving the items, The Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Prisons, ADP Alhaji Osman Tesembedo, commended the Lebanese for the gesture and urged benevolent organisations to help protect and equip the Kumasi Central prisons infirmary. He also announced that, an inmate of the Prisons who tested positive for COVID-19 has recovered
The items packed in 50 boxes contained cooking oil, rice, variety of fruits juice, spaghetti, canned fish including sardine and mackerel. Over seven hundred boxes of such items had already been distributed by the Community freely to the poor and needy in the Region.
Additionally, the security agencies on duty during the partial lockdown of Greater Kumasi and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital were also provided with some of the food items in line with the corporate social responsibility of the Lebanese Community.
