Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong , the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, cut the sod for the construction of the Mantukwa CHPS Compound, a healthcare facility aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services in the district.
During the ceremony, Hon. Acheampong expressed his gratitude to Offinsomanhene Nana Dwamena Akenten II for his royal and humble service to the people.
He acknowledged the people of Mantukwa for their loyalty and faithfulness to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, noting that every project in Mantukwa has been brought or built by the NDC government. “We brought electricity to Mantukwa, built schools, and we will continue to improve access to quality healthcare,” Hon. Acheampong said. He added that the NDC government will construct two hospitals every year to enhance healthcare delivery in the Offinso North District.
The DCE also assured Offinsomanhene Nana Dwamena Akenten II that government officials in the district will support his rule as the leader of the traditional area. He charged the contractor to employ workers from the Mantukwa community to help address unemployment in the area.
“This project will bring hope to the people of Mantukwa and surrounding communities,” Hon. Acheampong said, adding, “We will ensure that the facility is well‑maintained and provides quality healthcare services to the people.”
Earlier, the District Health Director, Richard Avagu, highlighted the challenges residents face in accessing healthcare services, particularly pregnant women who often lose their lives due to difficulties in reaching the Nkenkaasu Government Hospital. “The construction of this CHPS Compound is a timely intervention,” Avagu said. “We hope it will improve healthcare delivery in the area and reduce maternal mortality.”
Offinsomanhene Nana Dwamena Akenten II, who has a deep connection with Mantukwa — having served as a teacher there in 1971‑1972 and under the late Jerry John Rawlings — expressed his gratitude to the government for the CHPS Compound. He recalled that all the road networks in the Offinso community were constructed by the NDC government.
Nana Akenten II issued a stern warning to foreigners to stop selling off land in the community, stating that the land was secured by his predecessors and given out for development purposes, including hospitals and schools. “This land wasn’t sold; it was given to you for development purposes,” Nana Akenten II said. “Stop selling our lands and prioritize maintenance to sustain the project.”
The construction of the Mantukwa CHPS Compound is expected to improve healthcare delivery in the Offinso North Constituency and beyond.
