The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has marked a significant milestone in its efforts to re‑energize youth entrepreneurship in Ghana through the Adwumawura programme, a flagship initiative of President John Dramani Mahama.
The programme, positioned as a catalyst for sustainable business creation and innovation, seeks to create an enabling environment where young Ghanaians can develop and grow thriving enterprises.
In today’s tour of various Adwumawura centres across Kumasi, Lawyer Joan Selasie Ahiawordor, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, engaged with beneficiaries and underscored that the Adwumawura programme extends beyond mere funding and training.
“It is about creating an ecosystem where entrepreneurs can flourish and drive sustainable development,” she explained.
According to Lawyer Ahiawordor, the maiden cohort attracted an overwhelming response, with over 100,000 applications received.
Through a transparent selection process, 10,000 youth entrepreneurs were chosen to benefit from the scheme. “The programme is designed to support 10,000 youth‑owned businesses, and we are committed to ensuring that our beneficiaries are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to succeed,” she affirmed.

reminded beneficiaries that while this opportunity offers support, the responsibility to succeed lies in their commitment and ethics,” Lawyer Ahiawordor emphasized during her interactions.
She urged the young entrepreneurs to view the programme as a partnership that demands integrity, dedication, and a strong work ethic.
On his part,Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who also witnessed activities in the region, lauded President Mahama for his vision in launching the Adwumawura programme. “This programme is a timely intervention aimed at curbing unemployment in the country,” Dr. Amoakohene said, urging beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity and ensure its success.
He highlighted that the programme has already begun fostering linkages among participants, creating a network of young entrepreneurs who can support, collaborate, and learn from one another.
“The Adwumawura programme is testament to President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to empowering Ghana’s youth and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation across the nation,” he added.
The Adwumawura programme’s implementation is being steered by NEIP in collaboration with key stakeholders, with the aim of making a tangible impact on the lives of young Ghanaians and contributing to national economic development. By providing not only financial resources but also mentorship, training, and access to markets, the programme is positioned to nurture a new generation of resilient and innovative business leaders.
Stakeholders noted that the success of the Adwumawura initiative could serve as a model for future youth employment and entrepreneurship interventions in Ghana, reinforcing the belief that sustainable economic growth is driven by empowered, enterprising youth. With the GH¢ 60 million injection and the robust support structure being rolled out, the programme is expected to significantly reduce unemployment levels and stimulate local economies, especially in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
