A statutory committee responsible for disaster management has been inaugurated in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.
Members of the committee have been charged with the full responsibility of handling disaster-related matters within their jurisdiction with commitment and dedication to the state.
Their mandates are derived from Section 28 of the National Disaster Management Organisation Act, 2016 (Act 927).
The committee is chaired by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Nelson Yamba Issaka Ibrahim, and comprises the District Police Commander, District Fire Officer, District Director of Education, District Information Officer, District Environmental Officer, District Planning Officer, and District Social Welfare Officer.
At their inaugural meeting, the DCE promised to sensitize the public on their mandate and responsibilities, urging the public to support them in achieving success.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed, appealed to the committee to work assiduously, pledging to help resource them to function well.
