The Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has officially extended his profound gratitude to the Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing their unwavering commitment as the bedrock of the party’s growing vibrancy and electoral success in the region.
Speaking at a high-level consultative meeting in Kumasi with constituency youth organizers and their deputies, Mr. Genfi—the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer and the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Suame—emphasized that the youth remain the “beating heart” of the party’s regional operations.
Mr. Genfi’s address was marked by a deep sense of appreciation for the grassroots mobilization that has characterized his political trajectory.
He acknowledged that his rise from a regional youth leader to a Deputy Minister of State was made possible by the collective toil of the young men and women within the wing.
“I will never turn my back on you,” Mr. Genfi assured the enthusiastic gathering. “I will always be here to offer advice and moral support—not only during the heat of elections but at all times. Your loyalty is the foundation upon which our current successes are built.”
The Deputy Minister took a moment to reflect on the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, which saw the NDC make significant inroads in the Ashanti Region—traditionally a stronghold of the opposition.
He attributed the “overwhelming votes” secured by the party to the sheer determination and vigilance of the youth.
According to Mr. Genfi, the vigilance of the youth wing was the “final seal” on the party’s victory. He alleged that the then-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had managed the economy poorly across all sectors but sought to cling to power to protect undisclosed interests.
“It was your refusal to be intimidated and your keen eye at the polling stations that ensured the will of the people was protected,” he noted.
Addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment, Mr. Genfi urged the youth to remain patient as the government rolls out comprehensive socio-economic measures. He revealed that strategic policies are currently being implemented to ensure sustainable job creation for the nation’s young population.
He advised those who have yet to directly benefit from government appointments or programs to stay restrained and focused on the bigger picture.
He called for a unified front to build a “formidable and attractive” NDC in the Ashanti Region.
The goal, he stated, is to make the party the primary choice for young voters ahead of the 2028 General Elections.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, also addressed the delegation, reinforcing the government’s stance on youth inclusion. He dismissed the notion that the party only engages the youth for electoral purposes.
“We are investing heavily in youth empowerment so that you become independent and self-reliant,” Dr. Amoakohene stated. “The NDC government prioritizes young people in every decision-making process. We do not want a youth wing that is only called upon during elections; we want partners in governance.”
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, as the youth organizers pledged to maintain the momentum and ensure the Ashanti Region remains a competitive and vibrant landscape for the NDC as the 2028 election cycle approaches.
