Dr Kwaku Adu Boahene, a senior member of the Kennedy Ohene Agyapong campaign team, has expressed strong confidence that the former Assin Central MP will emerge as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the close of polls on January 31.
Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Friday January 23, he said he was fully assured that Mr Agyapong would win the contest, stressing that the party and the country were at a stage where a particular kind of leadership was required.
According to Dr Boahene, although all five contenders in the race are qualified to lead the party, the current political climate calls for a leader who embodies discipline, honesty and principled leadership.
“All the five are qualified to lead the party, but every era comes with the sort of leadership everybody envisions,” he said, adding “At the moment, what Ghanaians are calling for is a disciplined person, an honest person, a person that is principled.”
Dr Boahene described Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as a disciplined and honest individual who delivers results, noting that these qualities set him apart in the race.
He further portrayed the former Assin Central MP as an achiever and a doer who has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
“This is a man that has Ghanaians at heart,” he added.
The New Patriotic Party is expected to elect its flagbearer at the end of January, as the party prepares for the next general election.
