The Ashanti Regional Police Command has intensified security measures to clamp down on the rising incidence of highway robberies and ensure public safety.

This follows two separate robbery attacks on the Bibiani–Goaso highway stretch in the Ashanti Region, which left a player of Berekum Chelsea dead, and a driver and his mate severely injured.

The incidents have since sparked public outcry and heightened concerns about the safety of commuters, particularly along the affected stretch.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, April 17, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, indicated that the police have increased their visibility on highways and stepped up intelligence gathering efforts.Regional news updates

He urged the public and travellers to remain calm, assuring that the police are committed to reducing crime to the barest minimum.

He also appealed to the public to support the police with credible information to help identify and bring perpetrators to justice.

“After these two incidents, we’ve increased our FPU base. We initially had one FPU base as we speak; they’ve augmented their strength, added more men to those who are already on the ground.

“We have also added vehicles to ensure that our men are always on that stretch patrolling to avoid some of these unfortunate highway robberies that we recorded,” he said
