The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr. Eric Adjei, has urged students across the country to transform their talents into sustainable enterprises capable of creating jobs and driving economic growth.
Addressing participants at the Ashanti Arts and Enterprise Summit held at Kumasi Girls Senior High School last Saturday, Mr. Adjei said Ghana’s future prosperity would depend largely on the ability of young people to convert their creativity, innovation and skills into thriving businesses.
Speaking on the theme, “From Talent to Enterprise,” he stressed that while talent was a valuable gift, it could only create lasting impact when combined with entrepreneurship, discipline and innovation.
“Talent is what you can do, but enterprise is how you make it sustainable. It is how you transform a gift into an engine for economic freedom and national development,” he stated.
Commendation
Mr. Adjei commended the Ashanti Regional Minister for his commitment to youth empowerment and for supporting initiatives that provide opportunities for young people to showcase their talents and entrepreneurial potential.
He said he was impressed by the level of creativity displayed by students during the summit, describing the artworks, designs and innovative projects exhibited as evidence of the immense potential that existed within the region.
According to him, the colourful artistic displays and innovative concepts demonstrated by the students reflected a new generation of creative thinkers capable of competing on the global stage.
SEED Programme
The NEIP CEO highlighted the government’s Students Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) Programme, describing it as a strategic intervention aimed at nurturing young entrepreneurs while they are still in school.
He explained that the programme was designed to equip students with practical entrepreneurial skills, mentorship opportunities and access to funding to help them transform innovative ideas into viable businesses.
“The objective is to ensure that students do not leave school merely looking for jobs but are empowered to create jobs and become employers themselves,” he said.
Mr. Adjei added that innovation hubs were being strengthened in educational institutions across the country to support students in developing and commercialising their ideas before graduation.
Every Course Matters
The NEIP CEO also challenged the perception that some academic disciplines were more important than others, insisting that every field of study contributed meaningfully to national development.
“There is no superior course. Whether you study visual arts, business, science, humanities or vocational skills, every discipline has a role to play. What matters is how effectively you apply what you learn,” he noted.
He encouraged students to combine classroom knowledge with their natural talents to solve real-world problems and create value for society.
Inspiration
Sharing his personal journey, Mr. Adjei said he was particularly humbled to return to Kumasi as Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, recalling his days as a student at Osei Tutu Senior High School nearly two decades ago.
He noted that the Ashanti Regional Minister had been his senior in school and said their achievements should inspire young people to pursue their dreams with determination and faith.
“Be inspired by our story. Dream big, work hard, persevere and trust God. The future leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians and captains of industry are seated here today,” he told the students.
Future Bright
Mr. Adjei praised both teachers and students for taking advantage of the summit and demonstrating a strong commitment to personal development and innovation.
He said the quality of work exhibited by participants convinced him that Ghana’s future was bright and assured the students of NEIP’s continued support through training, mentorship and entrepreneurial development programmes.
“You have not only spoken about creativity; you have demonstrated it through excellence and innovation. If what we have witnessed today is a glimpse of the future of Ghanaian enterprise, then our future is indeed very promising,” he stated.
He encouraged the students to continue pushing the boundaries of their imagination and to view education as a launchpad for transforming their dreams into successful enterprises.
The summit brought together students, teachers, entrepreneurs, development partners and government officials to celebrate creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship among young people in the Ashanti Region.
