Chief of Staff Commissions Ultra-Modern AstroTurf at Agona East

The Chief of Staff ,Chief Julius Debrah,has commissioned a newly constructed AstroTurf facility at Agona East in the Central Region, marking a significant boost to sports infrastructure development and youth engagement in the area.

The modern facility, built to international standards, is expected to serve as a hub for football development, community recreation, and talent identification within the district. The commissioning ceremony brought together traditional leaders, government officials, youth groups, and sports enthusiasts who thronged the venue to witness the historic occasion.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff underscored government’s commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level, noting that investments in such facilities are critical to nurturing young talents and keeping the youth productively engaged. He emphasized that sports remain a powerful tool for unity, discipline, and national development.
He further highlighted that the construction of AstroTurf pitches across the country forms part of a broader agenda to bridge the infrastructure gap between urban and rural communities, ensuring that young people in districts such as Agona East District, Ghana have equal opportunities to develop their sporting abilities.
The Chief of Staff encouraged local authorities and community stakeholders to take proper care of the facility to ensure its longevity and maximum benefit. He also urged the youth to make good use of the pitch, not only for recreation but also as a platform to develop careers in professional football.

Traditional leaders and opinion leaders in attendance expressed appreciation to government for what they described as a timely intervention, noting that the facility would help reduce youth unemployment and promote healthy lifestyles among residents.

The newly commissioned AstroTurf is expected to host local tournaments, school competitions, and community sporting events, positioning Agona East as an emerging centre for grassroots football development in the region.
The event ended with an exhibition match to officially inaugurate the pitch, drawing cheers from residents who hailed the project as a major milestone in the district’s development journey.
