The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr Kwasi Afreh Biney, has led staff of the Trust to participate in the government’s two-day nationwide clean-up exercise, describing the initiative as a timely intervention to promote environmental sanitation and protect public health.
Speaking after the exercise, Mr Biney commended President John Dramani Mahama for demonstrating leadership by introducing the national clean-up campaign, which seeks to rid communities of filth and encourage a culture of cleanliness across the country.
He said the initiative would contribute significantly to improving sanitation standards and called on Ghanaians to make environmental cleanliness a continuous responsibility rather than a one-off exercise.
“I urge the public to continue cleaning their communities even after the two-day exercise to ensure a clean and healthy environment,” he stated.
Mr Biney stressed that sustained community clean-up activities would help prevent flooding, minimise the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases and create healthier living conditions for all.
He further encouraged institutions, community groups and individuals to support the national sanitation agenda by keeping their surroundings clean at all times, noting that collective action remained the key to achieving lasting environmental cleanliness.
The nationwide exercise forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sanitation, reduce public health risks and instil greater civic responsibility among citizens.
