The Embassy of Israel in Ghana has selected the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region as the only municipality in Ghana to establish a Twin City Partnership with Givatayim, a city in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The landmark partnership, which is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two municipalities, will be formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 8, 2026, in Israel.

The initiative is aimed at promoting collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including local governance, urban development, technology, innovation, culture, education and economic empowerment.

The selection of Oforikrom Municipality by the Israeli Embassy is seen as a major recognition of the Assembly’s development initiatives and its commitment to building international partnerships for the benefit of residents.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Answel Sadat Ahmed, is expected to lead a delegation to Israel for the official signing ceremony.

The partnership with Givatayim is expected to open new opportunities for knowledge exchange, technical cooperation and investment between the two municipalities.

Officials believe the collaboration will enable Oforikrom to benefit from Israel’s expertise in areas such as smart city development, innovation-driven solutions, urban planning and sustainable development.

The move also aligns with Ghana’s broader efforts to deepen international cooperation at the local government level and attract partnerships that support community development.

Residents of Oforikrom have welcomed the development, describing it as a significant milestone that could bring new opportunities, improve service delivery and enhance the municipality’s global visibility.

The Twin City Partnership between Oforikrom and Givatayim is expected to serve as a model for local government collaboration between Ghana and Israel, creating a platform for shared growth and development.
