The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating infrastructure development following a high-level inspection of two flagship projects expected to transform transportation, commerce and public service delivery within the municipality.
The inspection, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Amoh Kamel, brought together officials from the World Bank, the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), project consultants and contractors to assess the progress of the ongoing works and address implementation issues.
The two projects inspected were the New Atonsu Agogo Lorry Park and the Asokwa Multi-Purpose Building, both of which form part of efforts to modernise infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents.
During the exercise, project consultants disclosed that the New Atonsu Agogo Lorry Park has achieved 42 percent completion, while construction of the Asokwa Multi-Purpose Building has reached an impressive 92 percent completion, raising expectations that the facility will soon be ready for use.
Hon. Amoh Kamel expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and urged contractors to maintain the highest standards of quality while ensuring that the projects are delivered within the agreed timelines.
He noted that the Assembly remains focused on implementing development initiatives that directly improve the livelihoods of residents through better infrastructure and enhanced public services.
According to him, the New Atonsu Agogo Lorry Park will provide a modern and well-organised transport terminal to ease congestion, improve traffic management and create a safer environment for commercial transport operators and commuters.
He added that the facility will also stimulate economic activity by creating a more conducive environment for businesses operating around the transport hub.
The MCE further explained that the nearly completed Asokwa Multi-Purpose Building will serve as a modern public facility to support administrative activities, community programmes, stakeholder engagements and other socio-economic initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive development.
Officials from the World Bank and the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme commended the progress recorded on the projects and encouraged all stakeholders to sustain the momentum to ensure their successful completion.
They reiterated the importance of effective monitoring, quality assurance and collaboration among implementing agencies to maximise the developmental impact of investments under the programme.
The monitoring exercise also offered an opportunity for Assembly officials to engage directly with contractors and consultants on technical issues, project timelines and measures required to overcome any emerging challenges.
The Asokwa Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the World Bank, the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely completion and successful delivery of the projects.
When completed, the two flagship projects are expected to strengthen transportation infrastructure, promote local economic growth, improve municipal service delivery and provide modern public facilities that will serve the people of Asokwa for many years to come.
The Assembly says the projects form part of its broader vision of building a modern, resilient and economically vibrant municipality capable of meeting the growing needs of its residents while advancing sustainable urban development.
