The newly enstooled Otumfo Bosomprakumahene, Nana Kwarfo III, known in private life as Dominic Owusu, a respected radio broadcaster popularly called “Koola City” with Kumasi-based New Mercury FM, has appealed to Ghanaian youth to stay away from drug abuse and rather concentrate on education to secure a brighter future.
According to the traditional ruler, the growing incidence of drug abuse among young people poses a serious threat to national development, warning that substance abuse only destroys lives, careers and ambitions.
Nana Kwarfo III made the appeal shortly after his successful enstoolment as the Otumfo Bosomprakumahene, where he pledged to use his new traditional authority to champion issues affecting the youth, particularly education, discipline and moral development.
Addressing well-wishers after the ceremony, he stressed that education remains the surest path to success and personal transformation, urging young people to invest their time and energy in acquiring knowledge and skills instead of engaging in harmful practices.
He noted that many promising young people have had their dreams cut short through drug addiction, saying the consequences extend beyond the individual to affect families, communities and the nation as a whole.
“Drugs will only destroy your future, but education will open doors of opportunity and help you achieve your dreams,” he advised.
Nana Kwarfo III further encouraged parents, teachers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to work together in mentoring the younger generation and protecting them from social vices.
He assured the public that, beyond his role as a broadcaster, he would continue to use his platform and his new traditional office to advocate positive values, youth empowerment and community development.
The newly enstooled chief also expressed appreciation to the Asante traditional authorities and all those who supported his elevation to the stool, promising to uphold the customs, traditions and values of the Asante Kingdom with integrity and dedication.
Residents, family members, colleagues in the media fraternity and traditional leaders who attended the enstoolment ceremony congratulated Nana Kwarfo III and expressed confidence that his experience in public communication and community engagement would contribute significantly to the development of his traditional area.
