The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, has expressed confidence in the ability of the newly inducted Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, to provide visionary leadership that will further consolidate the university’s position as a centre of excellence in higher education, research and innovation.
Hon. Ahmed made the remarks after attending the investiture ceremony of Professor Agyare, where he joined government officials, traditional authorities, university management, academics, alumni and other distinguished guests to witness the official installation of the new Vice-Chancellor.
He described the investiture as a significant milestone in the history of KNUST and congratulated Professor Agyare on his appointment, expressing optimism that his vast academic and administrative experience would inspire transformational leadership and sustained institutional growth.
The Oforikrom MCE noted that KNUST occupies a strategic place within the municipality and continues to make immense contributions to national development through quality education, scientific research, technological innovation and the training of highly skilled professionals.
According to him, the university’s impact extends beyond academia, serving as a catalyst for economic growth, entrepreneurship, innovation and community development within Oforikrom and the country at large.
Hon. Ahmed further stated that the assumption of office by Professor Agyare presents a renewed opportunity to strengthen partnerships between the university, government and surrounding communities in addressing developmental challenges through research-driven solutions and innovation.
He wished the new Vice-Chancellor wisdom, courage and good health as he undertakes the responsibility of leading one of Africa’s foremost science and technology universities.
“May your tenure be marked by visionary leadership, academic excellence, innovation and continued progress for KNUST and Ghana,” he said.
The MCE also reaffirmed the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, research, environmental sustainability and community development, particularly through stronger collaboration with KNUST.
The investiture ceremony attracted high-profile personalities from academia, government, industry and the diplomatic community, reflecting the university’s pivotal role in Ghana’s socio-economic transformation and global academic standing.
Professor Christian Agyare officially assumes office with the responsibility of steering KNUST through its next phase of growth, innovation and international competitiveness.
