The Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly has successfully conducted interviews for shortlisted applicants seeking support under the 2026/2027 Local Tertiary Scholarship Scheme, marking another significant step towards expanding access to higher education for brilliant but financially challenged students in the district.
The exercise, undertaken through the Office of the President under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, brought together dozens of shortlisted applicants at the District Assembly’s premises, where they were assessed by an interview panel as part of the selection process for the scholarship programme.
The scholarship initiative forms part of government’s efforts to invest in human capital development by providing financial assistance to deserving students pursuing tertiary education across the country.
The interview process was designed to ensure transparency, fairness and merit in the selection of beneficiaries, while giving qualified students from the district an opportunity to access financial support to continue their academic pursuits.
Addressing the applicants after the exercise, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya North ,Hon Mba Zachariah expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the interviews and commended the applicants for their discipline and enthusiasm throughout the process.
The DCE also extended profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the successful disbursement of scholarship funds to beneficiaries under the 2025/2026 Local Tertiary Scholarship Scheme, describing the timely payment as a demonstration of government’s commitment to supporting education.
According to the DCE, the prompt payment has boosted the confidence of students and their families while reaffirming government’s determination to reduce financial barriers confronting many young people pursuing tertiary education.
He expressed optimism that following the successful completion of the interviews, the next batch of deserving beneficiaries for the 2026/2027 academic year would also receive timely support to enable them to concentrate on their studies without undue financial hardship.
He encouraged applicants who participated in the interview exercise to remain hopeful and await the outcome of the selection process, assuring them that the Assembly remains committed to fairness and accountability in the award of the scholarships.
The Local Tertiary Scholarship Scheme is expected to continue serving as an important intervention aimed at promoting educational excellence, empowering the youth and producing skilled professionals who will contribute to the socio-economic development of Atwima Nwabiagya North District and Ghana as a whole.
