The Pragyia Riders Association of the Tano-North Municipality in the Ahafo Region has honoured the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Pius Opoku, with a citation in recognition of his support and commitment to improving the operations of Pragya riders in the municipality.
The honour was presented to the MCE by the association as an appreciation for a number of interventions initiated and supported by the Municipal Assembly to improve road safety, promote professionalism and enhance the livelihoods of members of the association.
Among the key interventions highlighted by the association was the organisation of a road safety seminar for Pragya riders in the municipality.
The seminar was aimed at equipping riders with essential knowledge on road safety, responsible riding practices and the need to comply with relevant regulations governing commercial transport operations.
The association also commended Hon. Pius Opoku for supporting members to acquire the necessary operating licences, describing the initiative as an important step towards sanitising the Pragya business and ensuring that riders operated within the confines of the law.
According to the association, the support had contributed significantly to improving the image of Pragyia operators while encouraging members to conduct their activities in a more professional and responsible manner.
The members noted that access to the appropriate operating licences, coupled with education on road safety, would not only protect riders and passengers but also contribute to reducing road-related incidents and improving public confidence in Pragya services.
They expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly for recognising the contribution of Pragya operators to transportation and economic activities within the municipality.
Receiving the citation, Hon. Pius Opoku thanked the Pragya Association for the honour and expressed his appreciation for the recognition of the Assembly’s efforts to support the group.
He said the interventions formed part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to creating an enabling environment for the transport sector while supporting young people to engage in legitimate economic activities.
The MCE assured the association that the Assembly would continue to engage stakeholders within the transport sector and support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and professionalism of operators.
He stressed the importance of cooperation between transport operators and the Assembly in addressing challenges confronting the sector and ensuring that commercial transport services were operated in a safe and orderly manner.
Hon. Pius Opoku further encouraged members of the Pragya Association to take road safety education seriously and ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations.
He urged riders to regard their operating licences not merely as official requirements but as part of measures designed to protect their businesses, passengers and other road users.
The MCE also called on the riders to maintain discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, noting that responsible conduct was essential to sustaining public confidence in the transport sector.
The recognition of the MCE by the Pragya Association is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and transport operators as both sides work towards improving road safety, youth empowerment and the overall development of the Tano-North Municipality.
The association, for its part, pledged to continue working with the Assembly and other stakeholders to promote responsible riding and contribute to safer and more efficient transportation within the municipality.
