News available to ‘Akuafo Kye Fa’ show on Oyerepa 100.7 fm hosted by Mr.Richmond Frimpong has it that,there’s no maize in the country Ghana.
On the show,some farmers hinted that , maize constitutes 70% of poultry feed in the country. Adding that ,there’s also a shortage of wheat bran and soya meal in the country which is going to affect the entire Ghanaian population.
Due to this the farm gate price of Chicken ie layer or broiler will be sold at ¢35 cedis per
bird which will finally compel consumer to spend Ghc40-50 for a bird.
This is as a result of the rise in the price of maize and soybeans in the country.
On the show,the farmers made it known that ,within the spate of one month, there has been an astronomical increase of both maize and soybeans and poultry farmers are struggling to get feeds to feed their birds.
Adding, 150 kilos of maize was trading at Ghc150.00 but all of the sudden it has shoot up to ¢280, while soya bean has jumped from Ghc135 to Ghc197.
‘The irony of this is that we may not get some for human consumption if the situation remains unchanged.’ they added.
