Association of quarry workers in Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti region are much worried over unlawful encroachment of quarry land by community members.
Mr. Adu Tutu Gyamfi , Chairman for the association speaking on behalf of his members appealed for government interventions to fight the encroachers in order to expedite their operation.
His comments comes after punch newspaper interviewed him on the high cost of cubic of quarry dust in the region.
The Chairman noted that, quarry dust for sometime now is becoming scarce especially in Ashanti Region because of establishment of two cement factories in the country who are using more of the dust for their manufacturing.
Besides that, Mr Adu Tutu remarked that, river stone, river sand and others which were alternative dust for construction activities are now thing of the past, so all construction operators are depending on quarry dust for their activities.
Hence, he revealed that such challenges particularly the confrontation of the encroachers is compelling them to increase the charge of their products.
Mr Adu futher hinted that, if their petition to the government to address such menace prove futile by September,2021 there would be an exorbitant charges for a cubic of dust they will provide.
” The encroachment issue is been tackled and
the association has sent an official letter to the speaker of parliament and the president to address the problem but if the government didn’t come in, every operator will shift most of their financial burden to the users,” he said.
