President John Dramani Mahama’s speech at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 emphasized the need for Africa to unlock its full potential and occupy its rightful position in the global economic landscape.

He highlighted Africa’s immense natural wealth, youthful population, and growing technological advancements, but also acknowledged the challenges of economic disparities, infrastructure deficits, and structural barriers.

Mahama stressed the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in creating a $3.4 trillion market and promoting economic integration. He outlined three key actions to unlock AfCFTA’s potential:

Investing in infrastructure: efficient roads, rail networks, ports, and digital connectivity.

Strengthening intra-African supply chains: ensuring industries produce goods and services that meet regional and global standards

Harmonizing trade policies: eliminating non-tariff barriers and reducing business costs across borders

He also emphasized the need to accelerate economic growth, expand investment, and provide employment opportunities for Africa’s youth.

Mahama called for leaders to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring free and fair elections, fighting corruption, and promoting peace and security.

Ultimately, Mahama’s speech was a call to action, urging leaders to work together to build a strong, self-reliant, and globally competitive Africa .
