In a remarkable demonstration of civic responsibility and community spirit, Anigyeɛ Keep Fit Club, one of the most prominent and dedicated fitness groups in the Ashanti Region, spearheaded a massive clean-up exercise in the principal streets of Abuakwa today. The exercise was organized in collaboration with the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly and drew enthusiastic participation from several other local keep fit clubs.

Speaking to our reporters, Kesse Owusu Agyemang, Chairman of Anigyeɛ Keep Fit Club, emphasized the importance of civic duty and environmental stewardship.

He noted, “As citizens, it is our responsibility to ensure that our surroundings are clean. Participating in initiatives like today’s clean-up is a demonstration of our commitment to the community and to the broader well-being of the country.”

Mr. Agyemang further stressed that this effort was not intended to be a “nine days’ wonder.” He pledged that the club would continue to organize monthly clean-up exercises to maintain hygiene, promote public health, and instill a culture of sanitation across the community. “We call on the public to join us in these initiatives,” he added, “because communal participation is key to sustaining a clean and healthy environment.”

Other clubs that joined the exercise included Do Wonua Keep Fit Club, Hit Keep Fit Club, and Rock Keep Fit Club, all based in Abuakwa. Together, the groups cleared streets, removed litter, and ensured that public spaces were restored to a clean and welcoming state.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Atwima Nwabiagya South, Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, who was present to observe the exercise, commended the commitment of the youth and civic groups.

“It is heartening to see young people take such active interest in maintaining the cleanliness of their community. I urge them and all residents to remain steadfast and committed to communal labour,” he said.

This clean-up exercise forms part of a broader effort by the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly to promote environmental sanitation, civic responsibility, and sustainable community development.

Through initiatives like these, local authorities hope to instill a culture of hygiene, enhance the quality of life, and encourage collective action among residents.

The success of today’s exercise underscores the power of collaboration between civic groups and local government in creating cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant communities.

Residents and stakeholders have been encouraged to continue supporting such initiatives to ensure a lasting impact.
